MONDAY MEDITATION: Singing at Your Wedding (December 30, 2019)

He will rest in His love for you; He will joyfully sing because of you like a new husband.  – Zephaniah 3:17 (The Voice)

I’ve officiated at hundreds of weddings. Each was unique and special. There was one, though, that made a lasting impression on me.

It was that of a young couple, freshly graduated from college. They stood in front of the altar as all young couples stood, full of that curious mixture of excitement and anxiety. Then came a unique part of the ceremony that we’d added. The bride turned, faced her groom, and, looking into his eyes, sang a song that described her feelings for him.

The expressions on their faces were pure love. The groom’s smile was infinite, and his eyes watered. I remember thinking, “This guy is going to be putty in her hands for the rest of his life.” Happily, that prophecy has come true.

The simple message of the Gospel is that you were created so God could sing to you. Created so you could move God’s heart so powerfully that God just can’t help it. Of the seven billion plus people on this planet, there’s no one like you, no one who can make God feel like you make God feel. God writes a unique song because of you, and sings with a voice cracking with the love of that bride.

Any time you might feel down on yourself, beating yourself up for failing to live up to standards you’ve set for yourself, just imagine that bride singing to her husband. Allow yourself to be the grinning groom with the watery eyes.

God’s not stopped singing because of the joy you’ve brought. Keep listening. You’ll hear.
