Then Moses said to himself, Let me check out this amazing sight and find out why the bush isn’t burning up. – Exodus 3:3
The tale of Moses and the burning bush is a great description of the faith journey.
INCIDENT HAPPENED: Weird, burning-bush thing.
Something out of the ordinary caught his attention. A bush that’s continually burning in the middle of the wilderness, for no reason, is certainly out of the ordinary.
STOPPED AND ASKED: What’s going on here?
He intentionally left the path he was on to “check out” this phenomenon.
SEARCHED FOR THE ANSWER: He heard, “Hello, I’m God.”
He enters a dialogue with the voice that comes from the bush.
And there you have it. I don’t know of any disciple who hasn’t followed this blueprint.
What’s caught your eye? I’m a believer in “transcendent coincidences,” those things that capture your imagination. Something happens to you that’s impossible to explain. What have been burning bushes for you?
When have you stopped? I fear that God has started mysterious fires in my life that I might have glanced at but was too busy or distracted to check them out. How many times does the doorbell have to ring before you answer it?
How have you tried to understand the miracle? Who did you talk to? What did you read? How did you pray? What risk did you take? How did your priorities shift?
In every stage of our lives, God firestarts a bush. Maybe as we have the grace to stop and check it out, we’ll discover that what we think is extraordinary is really ordinary in God’s eyes.
And the adventure begins. Who knows what Pharaohs we’ll confront, and what Red Seas will part?
Thank you.
Always looking.
I’ve complained recently that God to me is too mysterious. Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places, or perhaps not enough.
i can relate to that. why does the bible have to be a mystery book?
