MONDAY MEDITATION: The Most Important Person in the Universe (September 29)

Even the hairs of your head are all counted. — Matthew 10:30

I often begin my daily devotions by recalling/celebrating what I consider calling cards from God: those times when the Spirit interrupts things with the wonderfully mysterious. They are wide-ranging and include weird happenings that sound either sublime or ridiculous, according to your perspective. Nonetheless, I take them to be subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) ways Jesus says things such as, “You are important. I love and believe in you. Lighten up and enjoy things more. Go take some risks, I’m with you….”

The absolute craziest thing to believe is that, with billions of people on this planet, Jesus says that I’m the most important person in the universe, deserving of God to take the time and count the number of hairs on my head (which grows easier the longer I live). And, of course, that this is what Jesus is saying about you, and everyone reading this, and everyone we know, and everyone we don’t know.

And if God so loves and cares for each walking miracle we see, shouldn’t we? Maybe God will use us in some concrete way to remind another person that they, too, are the most beautiful, amazing, inspiring, creation ever created. It could be forgiving them, surprising them with a gift, or remembering them in prayer. What other ways come to mind for helping another person see just how important they are?
